Participation that matters.

Step Forward helps young people develop the confidence, skills and experience to participate, contribute ideas and make a positive difference within their school and wider community.

Through practical challenges, collaborative projects and creative activities, students develop communication, teamwork, initiative and leadership skills by taking action rather than simply discussing ideas. Leadership is explored as a skill that can be developed by anyone, not just those in formal leadership positions.

Projects might involve planning an event, developing a campaign, leading an activity, representing student views, supporting younger students or working together to improve an aspect of school life. Workshops can be adapted to different ages, themes and learning goals, ensuring all students can participate, contribute and develop their strengths.

Longer projects and workshop series can support student councils, ambassador programmes, peer leadership initiatives, community projects and other forms of meaningful student participation.
